Thanks for visiting DK Made with Care, which is all about how DK is going green!

DK has always been environmentally conscious at its core. One of DK’s first books was John Seymour’s celebrated Complete Self-Sufficiency, a book still in print after 30 years.

The new Made with Care list takes our brand values of excellence and care, which are at the heart of everything we do, and makes our books the greenest they can be. We’ve asked difficult and searching questions of our suppliers to ensure that these books have been made with the most ethical and environmental production processes possible. The corollary to this is that we are asking the same searching questions of our suppliers and printers for the whole of DK’s output in our journey towards being as green as possible. We are continuously auditing our suppliers so that we can be sure that our high ethical and environmental standards are met by all those we deal with. We want to be completely open with our consumers about how we make all of our books.

By the end of 2008 DK will be using purely PREPs Grade 3 paper and above – paper for which we know the provenance, i.e. that it comes from legal and well managed forests. As a division of the Pearson Group we are already a founder signatory to the UN global compact; this sets out a series of principles against which we measure ourselves in the areas of human rights, labour standards, the environment and anti-corruption. Specifically all of our printers will have ISO 14001 or an CSR policy that has adopted the principles and standards of ISO 14001 by end 2008; and have ICTI CARE certification as appropriate; and be FSC chain of custody certified.
