The 115 islands of the Seychelles, lying in the Indian Ocean, support unique flora and fauna, including the giant tortoise and the world's largest seed, the coco-de-mer. Formerly a UK colony and then under one-party rule for 14 years, the Seychelles became a multiparty democracy in 1993. The economy relies on tourism.
