After long, fragmented conversations via the Nexus, the idea of commissioning Gered to do a studio shot of objets trouvees, an assemblage that would, could, only mean the Stones, in a unique and interesting way, emerges. A copy of The Master and Margarita and a ball of blue wool - you know the sort of thing.

Gered is up for it. This man, whose images of the Stones and of Hendrix (check your collection) formed part of the iconography of the Sixties, assures us he will create an image which will not only define the book, but will provide the motor power behind the PR campaign.

Gered's very nice. He's very enthusiastic. He's very accomodating. He and Bill set alight to a hotel room (inadvertently) during a Stones tour of the States. He will be responsible for the single most expensive photograph to appear on the cover of a DK book. If this doesn't work, then it's back to the drawing board for the team. And down to the Social Security for me.
