The team have sent out "feelers". These take various
forms. They've put teaser ads in the music press inviting
responses from anyone who has had direct experience
of the Stones - in the hope of trawling up some early
first-hand recollections from the '60s.
They've also done a series of interviews with the
Stones inner circle. Among these is Gered Mankowitz,
son of one of British cinema's "Golden Age" movers and
shakers Wolf Mankowitz, Gered a photographer intimately
related to the Stones from the mid-Sixties thru the
early Seventies.
The Wyman corporation has (quite rightly) rejected
a number of DK cover designs based on photo-montages
of "Stones" through the years - the fact is you can't
escape Jagger and Richards, but how do you accomodate
Bill and Charlie, let alone Brian, Stu, Mick Taylor,
Woodie and a host of essential collaborators (Bobby
Keys, Ry Cooder, Billy Preston, Leon Russell)?
