Interview with Nellie
|
 |
 |
Nellie, you are an art teacher with a mission to inspire children and their carers to create art together. What inspired you to start teaching art?
A very naughty bored little boy and his tired out mum!
How did you turn your passion for art into a successful business?
It was my passion for children and the children's passion for art that made the perfect recipe. Then I got together my arty friends who had a similar passion, and together we did the very best art workshops we could ever do. Oh, and then I stuck to it for over twelve years!
What is the philosophy behind your Art Class series?
Simplicity. You don't have to be an artist to make anything in my book; if you can make a basic sandwich it will be a doddle! I say, "Go for it and have fun!"
Where do you get the inspiration for your books?
All around me: the children I teach, my family, friends and the people I work with. I also love the zoo!
At dk.com, we all love Bingo the Flamingo; do you have a favourite project from your books?
Yes, I love my Serena Swan creation, she lives in My Puppet Art Class book and she's very serene indeed!
What is the secret to inspiring creativity in little ones?
Having a fun time, loads of ideas and always listening to them. I take little ones very seriously and they inspire creativity in me too.
Can you reveal anything about your forthcoming TV project?
It will be a show to inspire kids and my books will be the spring board, in terms of style and creative ideas. I will be devising and presenting; I'm hoping it will be a lot of fun for all involved and of course the children will be the STARS of the intended series. It's all fingers crossed at the moment!
