'Well where do I begin. This literature is truly invaluable as a householders own personal medical reference tool. I feel this book is satisfactory, for younger people and old alike. As my Mum in law of eighty two, was absolutely devoted for two whole days. That is before I protested give it back!! The small compact size makes this book ideal as a travel companion on your hols. The medicine section has a very comprehensive drug A-z. Full of useful and vital in some instances i.e. emergency medicinesand their uses. Finally I would like to congratulate the author on their advice regarding emergency situations, brilliant life saving advice!! This book is definitely a household must, and is in my top ten!!!'

There is good practical advice on symtoms, what you, yourself can do and a list of both Natural and Drug remedies. A well illustrated First Aid guide can be found towards the end of the book showing CPR etc. Ideal for families and anyone wanting general advice before visiting the GP. This book is also written in a very easy to understand manner - full marks from me!! :-)'

'This is a fantastic and useful book, The level of explanation and useful tips is fantastic, I can categoricially say that this book will help to save lives, Over the weekend my 1 and a half year old niece choked at a family BBQ, My partner after also reading this book performed the Infant Heimlich Maneuver! Without the use of Home Doctor we believe by the time an ambulance had arrived our little niece may not have made it, So i thank the author and DK and urge you all to purchase this fantastic medical reference book. A definate 10/10 from me, my partner and the whole of my family.'

'This book provides clear and informative detail on a number of everyday medical conditions, with guidance at what point to go and see the doctor. Suggestions on alternative as well as usual conventional medicines is a very helpful addition. As with all DK books there are clear pictures, the information is extremely well laid out, and generally there is one page per each malady. I''d say its a necessary addition for every household. I''d like to see the list of ailments increased - there''s a couple of everyday issues which aren''t covered - such as high blood pressure and diabetes. But I''m sure the next edition will be expanded when its recognised as such a useful household companion!'

'An excellent little book to have in the house. It starts with common symptoms discussing why and when you need to see a doctor. As well as what you can do for yourself. Including practical tips and common natural remedies you can try.
Next follows a section on infectious diseases, with good descriptions and handy pictures of different rashes so you can work out which is which. It then goes onto what you can do yourself, drug remedies, and natural remedies as well as prevention. There is a handy section in each which tells you when you need to seek medical advice - thus making the book helpful to self care, but also letting you know when things have gone beyond the realms of self care and need more help Problems are classified according to body areas making it easy to self diagnose and distinguish between similar conditions. I was particularly impressed with the rather safe sections that say see your doctor first, and seek further medical advice. This once again adds to the safety and completeness of this little book.
The book finishes with a section on drugs and natural remedies. Which contain helpful warnings such as not to take some drugs in combination with others.
On the whole a very useful and concsie little book, where you can easily access the information you want.....'
