The kitchen book-shelf favorite of every cook, now revised & updated with 50 new recipes.
Introduction
“Above all, cooking should be something you enjoy. The aim of this book is to make meals as pleasurable to prepare as they are to eat”. Mary Berry, 2003
Mary Berry is a champion of good, home cooking. Her Complete Cookbook is packed with recipes from around the world and featuring fresh, natural ingredients put together with the minimum of fuss and time. A delicious meal often starts not in the kitchen but in the imagination, so every recipe in the book is illustrated with an inviting picture of the finished dish.
Short-cuts, advance preparation tips appear throughout because Mary knows that your time is precious. She knows, too, that eating healthily is important for you and your family, so recipes aim to follow modern guidelines for using less saturated fat, sugar and salt. Whatever your level of experience and capability, step-by-step methods provide reassurance and ensure complete success every time.
An effective fusion of traditional and modern, the book comprises a familiar easy to follow structure in it's layout:
- Hot & Chilled Soups, First Courses, Eggs & Cheese
- Fish & Shellfish, Poultry & Game, Meat Dishes
- Pasta & Rice, Vegetables & Salads, Yeast Cookery
- Pies, Tarts & Hot Deserts, Chilled Deserts & Cakes & Teabreads
This is combined with a modern menu index, offering you a visual guide to choosing inspiration from the many continents reflected in the recipes. From tapas to sushi, Tuscan cannelloni to Thai curry, mushroom stroganoff to char-grilled vegetables; you are sure to find something delicious to temp your taste buds, what ever the occasion!

This book has become a gem in our kitchen. It has all the basics with added ways to make them interesting, as well as some more extravagant dishes. They are explained clearly and any special techniques required are shown. It's great for daily family cooking and entertainment. I've not found a better cookbook since. Even my husband looks at it!
