Nigel Henbest

Nigel is an award winning science writer, broadcaster and producer, specializing in astronomy and space
Nigel is a columnist for the Independent, and presents a regular programme, Seeing Stars, on the BBC World Service.

His 30 books and over 1000 articles have been translated into 27 languages. They include The Exploding Universe (1979), The New Astronomy (1983, with Michael Martin), The Space Atlas (1992, with Heather Couper), The Universe (1992), The Guide to the Galaxy (with Heather Couper), and the trilogy (with Heather Couper) Black Holes (1996), Big Bang (1997) and Is Anybody Out There? (1998). Nigel has an MSc in radio astronomy from Cambridge. He is currently a Director of Pioneer Productions, an independent TV company which has made internationally acclaimed series such as Raging Planet and the documentaries On Jupiter and Black Holes.

His past appointments include Chairman of the Radio 4 science quiz The Litmus Test, astronomy consultant to New Scientist magazine, Editor of the Journal of the British Astronomical Association, Chairman of National Astronomy Week 1990 and consultencies at both the Royal Greenwich Observatory and the Science and Engineering Research Council.
